A Girls’ Getaway Guide to Chattanooga, TN: The Perfect Long Weekend

When a long time friend shared her engagement news in the group chat, it became very apparent the gang was getting back together for a destination wedding. What does a travel blogger love more than a very good reason to book a trip? Nothing! So off to Chattanooga we went for a very fun filled girls trip. Here are my favs, recommendations and tips to make it extra special!

This Tennessee gem has a fun-loving, laid-back personality, a buzzing food scene, and easy-going outdoor adventures that make it a breeze to balance sightseeing with quality time together. From Southside brunches and rooftop-worthy cocktails to mountain views and a little train-station nostalgia, here’s how we spent a long weekend girls’ trip in Chattanooga, TN.

Where to Stay and Why It’s the Historic Southside Neighborhood

We chose to stay in the Historic Southside neighborhood, as it is one of the city’s most lively areas, with historic buildings, colorful street art, cute boutiques, and lively restaurants. Walkability is one of the main things I like to find in a destination neighborhood and Southside’s main street corridor is just that, making it easy to wander between meals, drinks, and local shops.

For a girls’ weekend, ambiance is everything! With that in mind, finding the ideal location to stay is the foundation for the perfect trip. Book a cute Chattanooga themed rental so the group can settle in, have ample room to spread out but also lots of spaces to socialize and spend time together.

If you are looking for a few more hotel style amenities, several other wedding guests stayed at the Caption Hotel in the same general area and really enjoyed their stay. They have a fabulous rooftop bar with views over the City, including a fun mixology class called Tarot and Tini’s.

TIP: While we did end up booking a few ride shares throughout our weekend, I will say our rental car was significantly cheaper and more convenient, just keep that in mind when planning. Parking was not really an issue, but it is paid in most of the popular areas.

Dining Out: Finding Local Charm and Delicous Bites

Start your days slowly with breakfast at Neidlov’s Bakery & Café. This local favorite is known for its artisan breads, pastries, and breakfast options. Do yourself a favor and grab a spiced apple butter latte and candied ginger and coconut cruffin, you will not be disappointed with these unique and memorable delights. Enjoy a leisurely morning stroll after, taking in the many fun boutiques and noting dinner spots for later.

Next, explore the Chattanooga Choo Choo, the city’s iconic former railway terminal. The historic architecture, gardens, and vintage train cars make this a fun stop for photos. Wander the grounds, browse the surrounding spaces, and take a group picture before heading out. It’s a little quirky, but quintessentially Chattanooga.

For the afternoon, choose your own adventure. Art lovers can explore Southside’s murals and galleries, while shoppers can browse local boutiques. If you’re craving fresh air, head toward the Tennessee Riverwalk or downtown’s scenic riverfront.

When early evening rolls around, make Frothy Monkey your next stop if you’re in the mood for coffee, wine, or a casual bite. Its coffee-by-day, wine-by-night atmosphere makes it a versatile option for a group that wants to keep plans relaxed. Then pick a Southside restaurant for dinner, followed by live music or cocktails. The neighborhood’s mix of bars and entertainment means you can make the night as low-key or spirited as you like.

Exploring Scenic Chattanooga

No girls’ trip to Chattanooga is complete without a little sight seeing and mountain magic. Set aside 1 day for your more scenic destinations and start at Rock City, just over the Tennessee-Georgia line on Lookout Mountain.

Explore the winding garden paths, dramatic rock formations, and famous overlooks. On a clear day, the iconic “See Seven States” panorama makes for a memorable photo. Wear comfortable shoes, allow time to wander, and grab yourself a coffee next door at the Rock City themed Starbucks for the road.

Back in the city, choose another highlight based on your group’s mood. Book a Private Karaoke Cruise on the River Gorge or if you’re still hungry, take the Historic Southside Food Tour. There is always time to stroll across the Walnut Street Bridge and spend some time in Coolidge Park.

Finish with a relaxed dinner, a toast to the weekend, and perhaps one last stop for something sweet, Insomnia Cookies was our pick for late night sweets delivery.

What to Pack for Chattanooga in Early Fall

Early October is a lovely time to visit Chattanooga. Expect comfortable afternoons and cooler mornings and evenings, with typical October temperatures averaging around the low 70s during the day and low 50s overnight. Pack layers, a light jacket, walking shoes, and an umbrella just in case.

If you enjoy a themed visit or have some fright lovers in the group, don’t skip the spooky season events, here are a few worth checking out:

Why Chattanooga Is Perfect for a Girls’ Trip

What I love about Chattanooga is how effortlessly it blends beautiful outdoor scenery, Southern hospitality, and a laid back but vibrant city atmosphere. You can spend the morning exploring a mountain garden, the afternoon sipping coffee, and the evening sharing small plates and cocktails—all without over planning every moment.

With the Southside as your home base, you’ll have restaurants, coffee shops, historic attractions, and nightlife close at hand. Build in a few must-do experiences, leave the rest flexible, and let the city surprise you. That’s the secret to a great girls’ weekend in Chattanooga: good food, beautiful scenery, and plenty of time together. Also, big shout out to our favorite bride, who planned a lovely event and gave us the very best reason to come together and celebrate! Couldn’t be happier for the lovely couple!

You know I love Tennessee for Girls Trips, as we also spent a very fun long weekend in Nashville together a few years ago.
