We are more than travel guides and passport stamps, we are storytellers and cultural voyagers, learning how the world can change us in ways we never knew.
From Portland, Oregon to Cartagena, Colombia to Seoul, South Korea, we are American expats raising two awesome kids around the globe.
Leaving Main Street is for people who are curious about a life rooted in discovery, seeing the world from new perspectives (literally and figuratively) and finding joy and wonder traveling to unexpected places.
This blog is where adventure meets reflection—exploring cultural shifts, honest takes on parenting teens outside America and how to find the best cafes in every city.

Step Into the Story →
What started with a someday dream about taking our kids for a year abroad turned into a flexible job opportunity and the option to live overseas for longer periods of time. Leaving Main Street was born as we left behind the traditional American dream in a sweet cul-de-sac for a country we had never stepped foot in. It was the ultimate leap of faith and I wanted to take everyone on the journey with us.

The road is rarely as you imagine and 2 years ago we found ourselves headed to Asia with a 3 year commitment to Seoul, South Korea. Same feelings, older kids. It has been the best move I never saw coming, opening my eyes to Asia in ways I never could have imagined.

In a post covid world, travel can look very different than rushing through a jam packed itinerary to see only the highlights of your destination. With the slow travel movement making a strong case for itself, I want to understand the how's and why's this type of travel can be a more meaningful, enriching and sustainable experience.
