The kids were in school for Labor Day so we snuck off for a little adventure of our own. We decided to drive the hour and a half outside Seoul for a quick day trip to Nami Island. Not having a ton of expectations before hand, we just let the day unfold. We got tickets right outside the ferry and after a quick 10 minute ride, we arrived on Nami Island and the storybook-ness begins. You can also bypass the ferry altogether and zipline onto the island, if you are looking for a more adventurous grand entrance.

We did some exploring through the beautiful gardens and wondered through some quaint shops. Long tree lined paths lead you around into different areas with storybook art and themes. We decided a tandem bike was on the agenda and we spent 30 minutes biking around the island, which was a great way to see the river views and all the options for activities when we bring the kids back.

Lunch was Korean BBQ and I followed it up with a steamed bun with red bean paste, which was amazing…. so good, I forgot to take a picture of the inside for you. (And only 1,000 won = .79 cents). It’s all a very peaceful escape from the bustle of the City and I can definitely see myself spending more time here with the kids and exploring even more of the activities. It wasn’t overly crowded, I think heading over early on a Monday was the trick.

A day trip to Nami Island was just what we needed, I would love to come back in late Fall when the leaves are turning colors. There are a few hotels on the island to come enjoy a few nights away, and I imagine the island has special charms in each season. Definitely worth the day trip from Seoul.
