This is my love letter to Cartagena. This Caribbean town that was never on my radar until it was. A place I never knew I wanted to visit, let alone live. To Coffee and Coco Rice, and all the Arepa’s in between. To the many new friendships I have made, who will soon span this globe in all directions. To the ladies of Coffee Tuesday, who kept me sane and constantly laughing. To the many parents and friends who showed my children warmth and helped me sort out the many differences of parenting in another culture. To my apartment, for having the most beautiful views I have ever seen. To the sunrises I never knew I loved until I was awake at 5:45 on a regular basis. To the street art and the street performers, and the charm that can only be found in a city that has seen as much sorrow as joy. To the 4 seasons of endless summer: hot with wind, hot with rain, hot with no wind and extra hot. To the sounds of the city buses, cruise ships leaving port and the endless Reggae-tone that goes well into the night. To the many people who live happily with much less of everything and the inspiring people we have met doing charitable work for a country that is not their own. You are the City that will forever be a part of who we are, and will hold a million “remember when’s” I am grateful to have lived here and to see what this experience inspires us to do next! Besitos!
