Cartagena: Blue Apple Beach House – A Perfect Day Trip

A few weeks back, we had some good friends in town and decided to take a day trip out to the Blue Apple Beach House. Just a quick 20 minute boat ride from Bocagrande to the island of Tierra Bomba and we were toes-in-the-sand on a beautiful quiet beach. When you book a day pass or nightly visit, private boat transportation will be scheduled for you from your nearest dock from bocagrande or castillogrande.

Going mid-week is always a better plan to avoid the weekend crowds. Even with an onsite DJ keeping the vibes just right, it was a very relaxed setting, people sipping mixed drinks, lounging on cabanas and reading books. If you need a little activity in between lounging sessions, you can play sand volleyball, some beach games or take a swim.

With hammocks hung from every tree, big lounging beds and an on-site restaurant serving amazing food and the Blue Apple Margarita that kept me company, we could have stayed much longer. Both my kids enjoyed the pool just steps away from the lounging area, and the friendly resort dog didn’t hurt either.

The beaches directly off of Cartagena are not the best, so It was so nice to enjoy the serenity of Colombian waters without the craziness of city life and beaches full of vendors. To just be surrounded by nature was all the break my brain needed to feel rejuvenated. If you want to plan a lengthier stay, they have villas to rent and a spa to enjoy as well. The food was excellent and the staff were beyond kind and helpful. The day passes too quickly and before you know it, they call for the last boat ride back to Bocagrande.

There are many choices for day trip beach clubs in the area, but I have returned again and again to Blue Apple Beach House for the quality of food, ease of booking/transportation and the perfect atmosphere while on site. 10/10 for our family, kids and guests included.

If you are looking for more great ideas for easy day trips from the city, check out the Botanical Gardens of Cartagena Guillermo Piñeras. A soothing walk through some lush gardens, with surprise monkeys overhead. Our family loved it.
